Mokgome is an experienced Fund Manager, Investment Banker and Deal Maker with over 18 years of experience.

Mokgome remains a Shareholder at Vantage Capital and was a Partner for more than 8 years, where he originated, structured, executed and actively managed mezzanine debt investments in SA, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Rwanda. Mokgome assisted with fundraising which led to the raising of two Mezzanine Debt funds of close to R6bn and two Renewable Energy Senior Debt Co-Investment funds of R5bn. He led the conclusion and successful exits of several investments including provision of R250m of expansion capital to New GX Capital, R90m acquisition funding for Thebe Mining to acquire Timrite mining support business, R90m acquisition funding for Ascendis Health to acquire Efekto, $8m debt refinance package for Rosslyn Riviera Mall in Nairobi (Kenya) and $10m expansion capital provided to Simba properties the owner of Protea and Marriott Hotels in Uganda.

Mokgome’s board experience includes New GX, Thebe Timrite, Efekto, Rosslyn Riviera and Simba Properties. Mokgome was also Chairman of the Audit and Risk committee for Rosslyn Riviera and sat on the Investment Committee of New GX. He also oversaw the Primedia investment before exit as a lender representative.

Prior to Vantage, Mokgome spent 9 years at Standard Bank where he was the Head of the Financial Institutions Group, BEE and Public Sector divisions within Standard Bank’s Leveraged and Acquisition Finance. There Mokgome led several noteworthy senior debt and mezzanine debt investments including providing R2 billion of investment capital to Shanduka Group (now Phembani), providing R2bn of growth capital to Old Mutual Finance, and concluding a $400m debt advisory and capital structuring mandate for Kenya Airways. Mokgome built the Leverage Finance / Private Equity buy-out optimal capital structuring and credit rating models at Standard Bank. He also provided training and induction to staff across the whole bank.

Mokgome was also founding member of Standard Bank’s Private Equity team and was a founding member of the Mezzanine Debt team in 2005 whereby he co-led the conclusion of a number of investments including arranging R6.9bn debt to fund the Sasol BEE transaction, R6.2bn to fund the De Beers Ponahalo BEE transaction, R800m to fund the WACO Leveraged Buyout by JP Morgan Partners, R350m to refinance Metrofile’s restructured debt, R600m to fund Phembani’s acquisition of a 20% stake in Engen and R1.5 billion to fund the Sasol Oil BEE transaction.

Mokgome is a Chartered Accountant and holds a BCom (Acc) degree Summa Cum Laude where he came first in the Faculty of Commerce, Law & Management. He is also a member of South African Institute of Directors.
